Pfeil Hardware Owners to be presented with The Ebbie Award in September by The Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce

The Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce recently announced that Deane and Jeff Pfeil, owners of Pfeil Hardware, will be awarded the “Edward H. Pattison Citizenship Award, also known as “The Ebbie” on September 27th. This award is given to those who are committed to improving their communities with significant contributions of time, energy, resources, ideas and care.
As written in the Chamber Newsletter “Insight”, “the Pfeils have inspired downtown redevelopment and rejuvenation in two cities, completing such successful adaptive re-use projects as The Conservatory, which houses Pfeil Hardware, and Powers Park Lofts in Troy, and The Masie Center, 340 Broadway and two medical office buildings in Saratoga Springs. These projects have dramatically increased the economic viability and quality of life in surrounding neighborhoods. This pair of pioneering developers give generously of their time, serving on an array of charitable, business, and community boards.”

Victorian Strollers at Pfeil Hardware!

We thought some of our sales staff were pretty tall until this lively guy showed up at our store last Sunday. Our ceilings were high enough to accommodate him. He needed some pliers to fix his stilts! That we could easily help him with. Hundreds of other people strolled through the store throughout the day, consuming gallons of hot mulled cider, eating more than 30 dozen home-baked cookers and shopping for holiday gifts and decorations. Some were even there for hardware! It was a great day and thank you to all who stopped by. We enjoyed talking with you and showing you our store.

William Phillips of Brunswick is the winner of our $1,000 Shopping GiveAway. He now gets to select up to $1,000 worth of merchandise from our Fall Merchandise Book. Will, a loyal Pfeil Hardware customer, is superintendent of facilities at Pioneer Bank where he has worked for 25 years. When asked what he will be shopping for, his first response was “new garage doors, but that could change.”
Pfeil Hardware, locally owned and operated by Deane and Jeffrey Pfeil, is celebrating its first year in downtown Troy. According to the Pfeils, the 8,700 sf store has performed very well, especially given the economic climate. “Every day we see new customers who are just discovering that Pfeil Hardware is a comprehensive, serious, well-inventoried store,” said Jeff Pfeil, “and our plumbing department has grown significantly to meet the many needs in Troy.”

Boy Scout Leads Restoration of WWII Park in South Troy

Jonathan Carroll, shown above with Sam Chiappone and Dan Carroll, his father, recently undertook the restoration of a much neglected WWII monument and park in South Troy as part of his work to achieve his Eagle Scout rank. As can be seen the in photos above, the “before” picture on the right shows the obvious need for some help. The center photo shows the re-dedication ceremony on Veterans Day in a beautifully restored park with an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd. Pfeil Hardware was proud to donate some of the materials needed for this project.

Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway Honors The Pfeils

At their Annual Gala for 2010 at Pat’s Barn on October 27th, the Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway honored Jeffrey and Deane Pfeil for “Heritage Development Done Right”. Gateway Board President William H. Skerritt described their first Troy project, Powers Park Lofts in Lansingburg where they took a beautiful but worn Victorian brick mill at 387 Third Avenue and turned it into 18 loft condominiums – the first in the region.

Following that, they transformed the magnificent former Stanleys department store into 19 truly luxury rental apartments on the upper four floors, created a tenant parking garage in the basement and opened Pfeil Hardware in the 8,700 square foot retail space.

“Surprisingly, in the middle of all this they have found time to assist in the rehabilitation of Barker Park across from their store and in many other Troy initiatives,” said Skerritt.

Deane responded, “Jeff and I are really delighted to be part of the Troy Community and very optimistic about Troy’s future. There is so much happening that is good – like the Food Co-op and Dinosaur Barbecue. Troy has great buildings, great history, great presence on the historic Hudson and, above all, some really great people who, like HMIG Director Tom Carroll, keep marching forward no matter the setbacks, motivated by their fascination for and desire to restore this truly beautiful, enigmatic, multi-faceted, diverse and historically rich city. Thank you for appreciating our work.”
